Umberto Accornero's Biography

Early Life and Introduction to Rallying

My journey into the world of motorsport started early. At the age of 8, I found myself on the karting tracks, getting a taste of the adrenaline and excitement that comes with racing. But it was rallying that truly captured my heart. By the time I turned 13, I was already behind the wheel of Subaru Imprezas and Mitsubishi Evos, fearlessly navigating through icy terrains.

Rising Stardom in the Junior Formula 1000 Championship

In 2015, the thrill of competition led me to the Junior Formula 1000 Championship in the United Kingdom. As the youngest and only foreign driver in the championship, I hopped into my little red Nissan Micra and took on the challenge. Despite the odds stacked against me, I managed to secure several podium finishes and prove that I could hold my own.

Triumphs and Setbacks: The British Rally Championship

The following year, in 2016, I set my sights on the British Rally Championship, the pinnacle of rallying in the UK. Armed with the newly-conceived Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost R2, I faced some of the toughest competitors in the country. The championship was fierce, but I managed to claim a well-deserved podium finish. Sadly, the Circuit of Ireland, a round of the European Rally Championship, dealt me a blow when I had a crash – my first major setback in my rallying career.

Conquering New Frontiers: World Rally Championship

But I wasn’t one to give up easily. In 2017, I took my rallying skills to a global level, making my debut in the World Rally Championship (WRC) aboard a Peugeot 208 R2. As one of the non-factory drivers, I pushed myself to the limits and emerged as the top non-world driver in the championship.

The Ultimate Challenge: Junior WRC

The ultimate challenge awaited me in 2018 – the Junior WRC with the official Ford Team M-Sport Poland. This was the pinnacle of rally driving, and I was up against the best in the world. I faced the most demanding rallies, showcasing my determination and skill.

A Temporary Hiatus and New Role

After the 2018 season, I had to take a temporary break from competitive rallying due to college and work-related commitments. But my passion for the sport never faded. In fact, I discovered another aspect of myself during this time. I realized I had a natural gift for teaching and inspiring others in rally driving. So, I embraced the role of a Rally Instructor, working with renowned schools and offering personalized one-on-one tuition to aspiring drivers of all ages.

A Legacy of Passion

Rallying is not just a sport for me; it’s a way of life. Even during my temporary hiatus from racing, my love for rallying remained steadfast. I will always cherish my journey – from a young karting enthusiast to a podium-chasing rally driver and now an instructor sharing my passion with others.

The Road Ahead

As I continue to evolve in both my personal and professional life, my heart yearns to get back onto Rallying. The rallying world is where I belong, and I’m eager to add more thrilling chapters to my remarkable story. Watch out for my triumphant return to the track, where I’ll be carving my path to success once again. The adventure is far from over!
